Let’s face it—most new parents barely have time to get enough sleep, let alone go to the gym. However, staying active is essential for maintaining a healthy body and mind. The good news is that you don’t need to leave your baby behind to stay fit.
Today we want to share some fun activities you can do together with your baby or toddler that will help you stay active while strengthening your bond with your little one.
Walking With Your Baby
Even if your baby cannot walk yet, that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a great walk together. There is a big difference between slowly strolling around the block and walking at a faster pace that raises your heart rate and gives you a proper cardio workout.
Try taking longer walks of around 45–60 minutes while maintaining a brisk pace. This helps keep your heartbeat up and improves overall fitness.
Some parents also use jogging strollers, which are specially designed for running or fast walking with your baby.
Swimming Lessons
Signing up for swimming lessons with your baby is another wonderful activity. Swimming not only strengthens your baby’s psychomotor development, but research also shows that movement and physical activity can positively influence a baby’s cognitive development.
Swimming classes also provide a fantastic bonding experience between parent and baby. At the same time, you’ll get a great workout as you move your arms and legs in the water, helping you build muscle and tone your body.
Bike Rides With Your Baby
Cycling with your baby can be a fun outdoor activity—as long as you have the right equipment. Your baby should be able to sit independently before joining you on a bike ride.
There are several safe options for biking with your baby:
- Rear-mounted bike seats: These seats attach behind the rider and usually include a high back, side protection, leg guards, and a safety harness. They are very common and comfortable for babies.
- Front-mounted seats: These seats place your baby in front of you so you can keep a closer eye on them while riding. They are more compact but still safe when installed correctly.
- Bike trailers: Trailers attach to the rear axle of your bike and are usually recommended for older babies or toddlers (around 1 year or older).
Bike rides are a great way to enjoy nature together while getting fresh air and exercise.
Yoga With Your Baby
Yoga is perfect for parents because you can practice it at home. This makes it ideal for rainy or cold days when going outside isn’t possible.
There are many yoga poses you can do together with your baby. You can find some examples in this video: Yoga With Kids.
You can also practice yoga while your baby naps or simply watches you nearby. Many babies love observing their parents during yoga sessions—and sometimes they even try to imitate the poses!
Stay Active and Bond With Your Baby
No matter which activity you choose, staying active with your baby is a wonderful way to maintain your fitness, enjoy fresh air, and create meaningful bonding moments.
