What Does "Hypoallergenic" Mean in HiPP HA Formula?
HiPP HA formula uses partially hydrolyzed cow's milk protein — milk protein that has been broken down into smaller fragments through a process called hydrolysis. These smaller protein fragments are generally easier for sensitive immune systems to tolerate than intact cow's milk protein. "Hypoallergenic" in this context means reduced allergenic potential, not zero allergenic potential — HiPP HA is not suitable for babies with confirmed cow's milk protein allergy (CMPA).
Who Is HiPP HA Formula For?
HiPP HA is designed for two main situations: babies with a family history of allergy (where a parent or sibling has a diagnosed allergy, asthma, or eczema), and babies who show signs of digestive sensitivity on standard cow's milk formula without a confirmed allergy diagnosis. It is not a treatment for confirmed CMPA — for confirmed allergy, an extensively hydrolyzed or amino acid-based formula prescribed by a physician is required. If you suspect your baby has CMPA, consult your pediatrician before switching to any formula.
HiPP HA vs HiPP Combiotic — Key Differences
HiPP HA and HiPP Combiotic share the same certified organic sourcing and strict internal quality standards. The key difference is the protein. HiPP Combiotic uses intact cow's milk protein — appropriate for the majority of babies. HiPP HA uses partially hydrolyzed protein — appropriate for babies with digestive sensitivity or allergy family history. Both include DHA + ARA and are tested for over 1,200 potential contaminants. HiPP HA does not include the Combiotic probiotic blend.
