What Does "Combiotic" Mean?
Combiotic is HiPP's proprietary blend of prebiotics and probiotics — specifically GOS (galactooligosaccharides) as prebiotics and Lactobacillus fermentum as live probiotic cultures. Together, they support healthy gut microbiome development, reduce digestive discomfort, and strengthen the immune system — closely mimicking the beneficial components found naturally in breast milk. The Combiotic blend is present in every stage of the HiPP Combiotic range.
HiPP Dutch vs HiPP German — The Key Difference
Both versions share HiPP's certified organic sourcing, Combiotic blend, DHA + ARA, and strict internal quality standards. The critical difference is in the carbohydrate profile. HiPP Dutch uses lactose as its sole carbohydrate at every stage — no starch, no maltodextrin throughout the entire range. HiPP German Stage 1 also uses only lactose, but Stages 2 and 3 introduce starch. For parents who want the cleanest, most breast-milk-like carbohydrate profile at every stage, the Dutch version is the preferred choice. For babies who need more satiety between feeds, the starch in German Stage 2 and 3 may be helpful.
Stage-by-Stage Guide
Stage PRE — From Birth
Lactose-only, starch-free, Combiotic blend. The gentlest entry point in the HiPP range — closest to breast milk in carbohydrate composition. Available in Dutch version.
Stage 1 — From Birth
Suitable from birth as a complete breast milk substitute or supplement. Lactose-only in both Dutch and German versions at this stage. Combiotic blend throughout.
Stage 2 — From 6 Months
Designed to complement weaning. Dutch Stage 2 remains lactose-only; German Stage 2 introduces starch. Both maintain the Combiotic blend and certified organic sourcing.
Stage 3 — From 10 Months
Supports active babies transitioning to a more varied, solid-food-led diet. Dutch Stage 3 remains starch-free; German Stage 3 contains starch. Combiotic blend continues.
Junior / Stage 4 — From 12 Months
Growing-up milk for toddlers from 12 months. Maintains HiPP's organic sourcing and Combiotic support through toddlerhood.
