10 Coconut Oil Remedies for Babies

At the Organic Baby Formula Shop, and as parents ourselves, we try whenever possible to use natural products from mother nature for both ourselves and our two girls.

There are many organic and natural alternatives that can replace conventional over-the-counter products. One of our absolute favorites is organic coconut oil. This natural ingredient has countless benefits, especially for your baby’s delicate skin.

If we had to narrow it down to our top ten uses, these would be our favorite coconut oil remedies for babies.

  1. Diaper Rash – Even when diapers are changed frequently, diaper rash can still occur. This irritated red skin often appears around your baby’s bottom. Applying a small amount of coconut oil to the affected area can help soothe irritation and promote healing. Always make sure the skin is clean and dry before applying.
  2. Insect Bites – Bugs sometimes find their way to your baby’s skin. Coconut oil can help relieve itching and may help the skin recover faster when gently applied to the bite.
  3. Ear Infections – Ear infections can be painful for babies. Some parents apply coconut oil around the outer ear area for comfort. However, if symptoms persist or worsen, it is important to consult your pediatrician.
  4. Cradle Cap – Cradle cap is a common baby scalp condition characterized by yellowish or brown scales caused by excess oil production. Applying coconut oil to the scalp can help soften the flakes and moisturize the skin.
  5. Baby Acne – Babies can sometimes develop small pink pimples due to hormonal changes. Washing the skin with gentle organic soap and applying a small amount of coconut oil may help calm the skin.
  6. Hay Fever Protection – If your baby reacts to pollen, some parents apply a small amount of coconut oil near the nostrils to help trap pollen before it enters the nose.
  7. Teething Relief – As explained in our article Natural Teething Remedies, coconut oil may help soothe irritated gums when gently massaged onto them.
  8. Thrush – Coconut oil contains natural antifungal properties. Some parents apply it gently to areas affected by thrush to help reduce irritation.
  9. Bath Additive – Adding a small amount of coconut oil to your baby’s bath can help moisturize the skin and leave it feeling soft.
  10. Natural Moisturizer – After bath time, gently massaging coconut oil into your baby’s skin can help keep it soft and hydrated.

The benefits of coconut oil for babies are truly impressive, and many parents love using it as a natural skincare option.
