Today we would like to introduce some of our favorite easy homemade baby food recipes that are nutritious, simple to prepare and perfect for babies starting solid foods.
Thinly puréed fruits, vegetables and baby cereals are usually the first foods introduced into a baby's diet.
When introducing new foods, it is important to start with single ingredients and wait about four days before adding another new ingredient. This helps parents identify possible food sensitivities.
Great foods to begin with include avocado, butternut squash and sweet potato.

From about 6–8 months, babies can safely enjoy vegetables such as sweet potatoes, winter squash and carrots, as well as fruits like bananas, apples and avocados.
Here are some simple baby food recipes made with these ingredients.
Oatmeal with Banana
Ingredients
- Your favorite baby oatmeal
- 1 ripe organic banana
- Breast milk, cow milk or formula
Preparation
Prepare the oatmeal according to the instructions on the package and warm it gently.
Mash the banana until smooth and mix it with about ¼ cup of milk.
Add the banana mixture to the oatmeal. This recipe can be served warm or cold depending on your baby's preference.
Grandma's Apple Purée
Ingredients
- 1 organic apple
- Water or milk
Preparation
Peel the apple, remove the core and cut it into small pieces.
Boil approximately 75 ml of water and cook the apple pieces for about 10–15 minutes until soft.
Let the apples cool and then blend them with 4–5 tablespoons of water or milk until smooth.
Serve warm or cold.
Banana and Avocado Mash
Ingredients
- 1 ripe banana
- 1 ripe avocado
- Formula or milk
Preparation
Peel the banana and avocado and cut them into small pieces.
Mash them together with a fork and add a small amount of milk or formula to reach your desired consistency.
This dish is best served fresh and cold.
Sweet Potato One-Pot Purée
Ingredients
- Sweet potato
- Carrot
- Apple
Preparation
Peel the sweet potato, carrot and apple and cut them into small pieces.
Cook the sweet potato and carrot in boiling water for about 15 minutes until nearly soft.
Add the apple pieces and cook for another 10 minutes.
Blend everything until smooth using a food processor.
Serve warm.
Tip: A small pinch of cinnamon can add a naturally sweet flavor if your baby enjoys it.
